Surprise School 1918 1955

Grace comes with opportunities the vastness of the place along the long strench road across a prairie field threw the river valley Moment upon me once a storm cleared prairie rails in the new era in enrich life.

As we were approaching up to the brick school my husband and myself were admiring it the storm clouds were rolling in gearing up for the next storm we saw a couple a farmer's checking on there cattle from in there dune buggy gave us permission to photograph this old beauty.

The long walks to this the determination to strive to leave with a better education.

The brick structure we noticed part of there heritage bricks along with vertical wood the crosswood structure to hold the bricks are crumbling Surprisingly how long the old brick school stands today looking out toward at the door noticed a blue brass door knob which is really quiet rare.

Original school built in 1910. The name came from rather large hill to the southwest the building was the secondary Surprise School and was opened in 1923 from the Minister of Education, many farmer's made loaves of bread from fresh wheat crop for the celebrations a host life brass band to the prairie chicken dance round dance come to the school our soul dances the sun would set so high to importance of there heritage. When the depression began students downsized school reduced to only one room with a second room set up as living quarters for the teacher believe the school closed 1953.
