The village is within the parish of Halkirk and is said local people in Scotland's first planned and planned the village a a new purpose in life for more harmonious to there beliefs it drew there hearts deep.

Old school just a sign as the school But Halkirk is named for a town in Scotland. However Notre Dame Savoie is founded by the French Settlers in the area north of Halkirk. Notre Dame Savoie is a province/county in France near the Swiss alps many ancestors came from. His Great Grandfather Jean Cordel first settlers to homestead just north west of the church he arrived in 1904 his fullness Jesuit priest.

His Great Grandfather Jean Cordel was one of the first settlers to homestead there just north west of the church He arrived in 1904 and lived with a Jesuit priest.











Unfortunately the homestead is no longer. The mine bought the land and all buildings were moved off or destroyed  it was an incredibly sad time for the families was  the newer Notre Dame church was actually west of the old one, not east. It was moved in the mid-1980s to make room for the coal mine.  To the southeast of Notre Dame church a few kilometres was the Tinchebray school and the Tinchebray cemetery. Tinchebray was the name of the small town in France where the priests came from that got Notre Dame congregation started. That pic is the site of the Tinchebray school.





   .The last picture is off the church that replaced the. old one. It was situated a few miles straight east of old one. When the congregation dissolved this building   was sold and moved to a   farm.
